Association Awarded $80,000 Honda Grant

The Ohio Technology Student Association received a Honda grant—$40,000 this year and $40,000 next year—
advancing math scores of students in the Tri-Rivers Career Planning District & consortium schools. Funds will provide “hands on” projects for K-12 curriculum, nspire graphing calculator equipment, professional development and software to math and science programs throughout district.

The grant’s goal is to enable students to enter college with expected college ready math scores according the ACT COMPASS testing. Ritch Ramey, Tri-Rivers Engineering Technology instructor, said we will also be working with Texas Instruments, Depco and Lego on coaching and professional development opportunities as well.

“The goal is to use this grant to earn a NSF of 1.3 million to promote STEM throughout the district as well. The NSF would be primarily used to add class room equipment to TRCC. We will be having 4 STEM training sessions this summer for Math Robots (June 14-18), Geometry (July 13-17), Algebra (July 27-30) and Vex robotics (August 9&10th). Each session will have grad credits available through Ashland University.  This is awesome news,” said Ramey.
