Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Nov. 2

The first area Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, sponsored by Tri-Rivers Career Center, will be this Saturday, November 2, starting at 11am in the former Marion Catholic Parking Lot, 1001 Mt. Vernon, Ave, Marion.Walk A Mile copy

The event is part of the international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. This local event is organized by the students in the Public Safety Services program at Tri-Rivers. Participation in the one-mile walk is free. For $10, a T-shirt and meal ticket may be purchased. There will also be raffle tickets available. All proceeds will support the cause.

The men participating are asked to bring high heel shoes to wear, according to Terry Donaugh, Public Safety Services instructor. “This is an excellent opportunity to rally support in our community to raise awareness about the causes, effects and remedies for sexual assault and violence. Men, women and children are welcome to join the walk. It is a good way to get people to talk about a difficult subject.”

Sexual violence does not just affect women, according to the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Organization. It affects the men who care about them, their families, their friends, their coworkers, and their communities. Learn more at www.walkamileinhershoes.org.

For more information about this Saturday’s walk, contact Donaugh at 740-389-8558.

Let the games begin!

The 2nd Annual RAMTEC Middle School Vex Robotics Challenge was held October 10 in the Tri-Rivers Auditorium,   8 am to 3 pm.

More than 120 students competed from Highland, Elgin, Ridgedale, Cardington, Indian Lake, Kenton and Grant.

This event is one of the qualifiers for the State Competition, which will be held at Marion Harding Feb. 22. From the State Qualifier three middle school teams will qualify to go on to the  World Championships in Anaheim, CA in April. The new competition utilizes beach balls instead of sacks like last year. It is call toss up competition and will be used for all the VEX robotics contests this year. It feature two zones where teams are allowed to score. Then there are two bars where robots hang. Students’ goal is to place balls in the containers in the zones then have their robots hang from the bar in order to earn points. The contests allow students to design, program and “drive” their robots. They also must complete a detailed notebook. They share their notebook and their robots with a judge who interviews the team.

North Union and Ben Logan MS teams won the event. NUMS teams 4810a won the OSUM Engineering $1,000 for each team member for having the best engineering Notebook.

RAMTEC—Believe in the Future

RAMTEC the first training facility of its kind in the State of Ohio had its grand opening Thursday, September 19. The Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative is located on the Tri-Rivers Career Center Campus.

Historically, career centers, technical colleges, and four-year colleges have provided parts of the answer. Now, however, through the collaboration of Tri-Rivers Career Center, Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University at Marion, the Marion Area has the opportunity to offer the whole solution by partnering directly with business and industry to provide industrial robotics and advanced manufacturing skills/industrial certifications throughout Central Ohio and beyond.

The three schools, in partnership with companies like Honda of America, FANUC Robotics, FANUC CNC, Lincoln Electric and Yaskawa Motoman Robotics, have combined forces to make RAMTEC a reality.

“We truly believe manufacturing is alive and well in Ohio and we are involving all types of advanced automation,” said Charles Speelman, Superintendent for Tri-Rivers. “The need for RAMTEC is now.”

RAMTEC Grand Opening Sept. 19

Tri-Rivers Career Center cordially invites you to attend and speak at the opening ceremony for the new Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing Technology Education Collaborative—RAMTEC, located on the Tri-Rivers Career Center Campus in Marion, Ohio.  The event is scheduled for Thursday, September 19, 2013.  The Ribbon Cutting is at 4:30pm, followed by tours through 6:30pm.

RAMTEC will be the first training facility of its kind in the State of Ohio.  High school and adult students will have access to an industrial training center that provides numerous industrial certifications including robotics, robotic welding, and CNC operation across all major platforms while working towards academic degree obtainment.  RAMTEC will provide industrial robotics and advanced manufacturing skills training in partnership with the businesses and industries throughout Central Ohio and beyond.

Historically, career centers, technical colleges, and four-year colleges have provided parts of the answer. Now, however, through the collaboration of Tri-Rivers Career Center, Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University at Marion, the Marion area has the opportunity to offer the whole solution by partnering directly with business and industry to provide the critical proven industrial training and apprenticeship programs collaboratively.

The three schools, in partnership with companies like Honda, Fanuc Robotics, Lincoln Electric and Motoman Corporation, have combined forces to make RAMTEC a reality.  Our goal is to move at the speed of business and meet the training needs of manufacturers in Central Ohio.

On September 19, 2013, we are inviting our business partners and collaborators, local and state government and educational representatives, as well as the general public and media.  There will be a business summit prior to the Grand Opening at 4:30 p.m. The partnerships and collaborations that we have formed are going to make a lasting impact.  We truly believe manufacturing is alive and well in Ohio and we are involving all types of advanced automation in the form of robotics, computer-aided machinery and technology to improve products and processes.  The need for RAMTEC is now.
