Teachers learn to teach about Robotics

RAMTEC Camp July_web 3571Several area teachers are at RAMTECohio in Marion this week learning how to introduce robotics to elementary, middle school and high school students through engaging, hands-on activities. Several young people have joined them for the camp.

Leading the instruction is Jeff Branson educational outreach coordinator at SparkFun Electronics, along with his wife, Beverly Ball, a welding/art teacher and founder of TinkerBelles, an all-girls maker club.

Monday, July 27 the camp kicked off with a “teachers only” session. Then days 2 and 3, students joined the teachers. The last day will conclude with another “teachers only” session.

The camp is sponsored through Straight A and Honda grants. Its goal is to add art to the STEM curriculum and interest students as young as third grade.

Teachers learned new technology, how to engage students and present material. Students learned programming, problem solving, mathematical thinking, and had the opportunity to challenge themselves while participating in group activities. They even learned how to do origami.

Congratulations to 2015 Industrial Maintenance Grads

Group Industrial Maintenance 2015_webThrough hard work, excellent attendance and ambition, 16 students completed the 600-hour Industrial Maintenance program and are ready for success in the field. The graduation ceremony was held June 3, 2015 in the Tri-Rivers Auditorium with a packed room of family and friends.

Seniors Recognized at Palace Theatre in 2015

Tri-Rivers 2015 Senior Recognition was held at the Palace Theatre in Downtown Marion, Monday, May 18 at 7p.m. All students crossed the stage of the historic theater and were recognized for their many accomplishments and the more than $220,000 of scholarships.

NTHS flowers 2015Nineteen students were inducted into the Tri-Rivers National Technical Honor Society during an evening ceremony held in the Multi-Purpose Room at the Career Center, Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Tri-Rivers Future Leaders (TRFL) held their Above & Beyond Day, Wednesday, April  29, 2015. Throughout the day the sophomores and their advisers completed numerous community service projects throughout the three counties that support their education—Marion, Morrow and Union.

Some of the service projects included cleanup and repairs at Busby and Fenmore Parks in Downtown Marion, Richwood Park in Union County, Flying Horse Farms in Morrow County and the Marion County Fairgrounds.

It turned out to be a beautiful day for these AMAZING y0ung people to give back to their communities.

National Robotics Challenge April 9-11

National Robotics Challenge

The 2015 National Robotics Challenge http://thenrc.org/ is at the Marion County Fairgrounds Coliseum and Evers Area April 9-11, 2015. Marion County hosts this growing event where around 1200 students from nine states will participate in Robot Mazes, Mini-Sumo contests, Robo Hockey, Bot Ball, and more!

The National Robotics Challenge opens to the public at 10 a.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for children five and under. Several area teams will be represented.National Robotics Challenge
