Due to Rain TRCC’s FFA Car Show Moves to May 13!

Due to Rain, Tri-Rivers FFA Chapter’s  Annual Car Show is now scheduled for Saturday, May 13 at the Career Center, 2222 Marion-Mt. Gilead Rd, Marion, Ohio, 9am-1pm in the parking lot. Admission is FREE.

All cars and trucks are welcome, according to FFA Advisor Carrie Heimlich. “The proceeds will go to Nationwide Children’s Miracle Network.”

Registration is $10 per car and will be available upon arrival. Dash plaques will be provided for all entries. There will be trophies and 50/50 drawings.

Auto Tech attends International Auto Show

The Tri-Rivers Automotive Technologies students attended the 2017 Columbus International Auto Show at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, March 17, 2017.

They had the opportunity to see the latest and greatest models and to check out the new technologies in the Automotive Industry.

Among the display were: Subaru’s “A Lot to Love” Ride and Drive Event; Toyota’s Get Behind the Wheel display; Nissan’s Electric Experience; RAM Truck Experience; Accessory Avenue Display; World’s Fastest Corvette; Art on Wheels, as well as the Ultimate Tailgate RV.

Featured cars at the show included: Acura, Audi, Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Chevrolet, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Genesis, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Indian Motorcycles, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lexus, Lincoln, Kia, Nissan, Polaris, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota, RAMT, Volvo, Jeep, Volkswagen, Mazda, Porsche, and Victory Motorcycles.

Automotive Technology students at Tri-Rivers receive several industry-recognized credentials through the program from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE): Service Technology, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Brakes, Electronic/Electrical System, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, Heating and Air Conditioning, Maintenance & Light Repair, Manual Drive Train & Axles, and Suspension and Steering.

The program teaches students through hands-on and related work how to diagnose, service and repair a wide range of vehicles, along side a certified Master Technician, Instructor Lucas Bledsoe.

Tri-Rivers Nursing School Ranked #1 in Ohio

The Tri-Rivers School of Nursing was recently ranked number one in the State of Ohio by RegisteredNursing.org.  Eighty-four schools in Ohio were analyzed and 30 qualified to be ranked, said Dr. Emeline Kelly, Tri-Rivers Director of Health & Public Safety program. Dr. Kelly said RegisteredNursing.Org ranked nursing schools in Ohio by analyzing current and historical NCLEX-RN pass rates.

“They went back to the most recent years of data available up to five years, then averaged the schools’ pass rates, weighted the recency of the exam and considered the number of students taking the exam.”Dr. Kelly explained that the National Council Examination (NCLEX-RN) is the nationwide examination for licensing of nurses in the United State and Canada. Most recently the 2016 graduates of Tri-Rivers LPN to RN program achieved 100% passage of the NCLEX. In 2014 Tri-Rivers nursing program was the only RN program in Ohio with more than 10 graduates to achieve a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN, in 2015 they achieved 95.6%.Dr. Kelly said the goal of the Tri-Rivers LPN to RN program at Tri-Rivers is two-fold. “First of all, we want our graduates to successfully obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse. Secondly, our students also receive education that focuses on the professional environment and current practice issues including evidenced-based practice and patient experience, in order to make them successful employees for today’s health care agencies.”

“We also place importance on continuing education by instructing our students that it is an expectation that they will obtain further education, minimally a baccalaureate degree,” said Dr. Kelly. “Additionally, we hold our faculty and staff to a high standard, relying on current practice and innovative educational strategies.”

Dr. Kelly attributes the high ranking from RegisteredNursing.Org and high pass rate of the NCLEX to her team who works one on one with students and “offers unparalleled support for students during their training.”

“We look at each individual student and work hard to support their goals of becoming a healthcare professional,” said Dr. Kelly.  Each student is different. We recognize those differences and provide the support that help them succeed.”

Katie Keller, a graduate of Tri-Rivers Patient Care Technician, LPN, and LPN to RN program, said, “I wanted to become a nurse because my grandfather was an ob-gyn in Marion, Ohio for many, many years.  He delivered thousands and thousands of babies. He had a great legacy of being a great doctor and I always wanted to follow in his footsteps. Tri-Rivers made that possible for me. I am now a Registered Nurse working at Marion General in their labor and delivery room, walking the hallways that he walked, working in the same delivery rooms and I couldn’t be happier.”

Keller said, “I’m proud of my hometown and our labor and delivery at Marion General  where I work. We have an awesome team. There are actually multiples of us who have graduated from Tri-Rivers.  “Tri-Rivers taught us teamwork.”

Dr. Kelly said at Tri-Rivers School of Nursing it is “all about relationships. We are partners with our students. Their success is our success.”

Tri-Rivers honored Veterans with free services

Some of the services provided to veterans included:

• A Soup & Salad Bar lunch provided by our Culinary Arts students in CC Bistro

 • A Wash, Wax & Vacuum vehicle service provided by our Auto technology students

• Haircuts, Manicures & Pedicures provided by our Cosmetology students

• Servicing lawn equipment including: Lawn mowers, Chain saws, weed eaters, Snow blowers and Power washers by our Ag & Industrial Power students

• Pet Grooming provided by TRCC’s Veterinary Sciences program

• Portraits were taken by Digital Media & Entertainment students

• Health checks of vital signs were provided by our Health Careers Academy students

• Computer safety inspections were performed by our Computer Networking students

• Criminal Justice demonstrations were held for Veterans and their families about student preparation for military and or police work

TRCC/RAMTEC students earn FANUC Certifications

14976892_1532994630049779_1148265425392156837_oTri-Rivers/RAMTEC:  Fourteen Level I Engineering Technology Students at Tri-Rivers Career Center/RAMTEC earned their FANUC Tool Handling and Programming Industrial Certifications recently. Twenty-eight Level I and Level II students have now completed their credentialing in Engineering Technology from Certified FANUC instructor Mark Edington. Fifty-eight students have now been certified at Tri-Rivers since 2014. There will be many more to come this year between 22 Welding, 16 Advanced Machining and 9 more level I Engineering Technology students.

To thank area veterans Tri-Rivers Career Center students and staff will provide complimentary services during the second annual “Services for Those Who Served Day” on Friday, November 11. “In order to plan and accommodate veterans attending the event we ask that appointments be made in advance for each of the services veterans wish to receive,” said Heather Jenkins, history instructor and one of the coordinators for the event.

Some of the services available to veterans on November 11 include:

• A Soup & Salad Bar lunch provided by our Culinary Arts students in CC Bistro—serving from 11am-12pm.

• A Wash, Wax & Vacuum vehicle service provided by our Auto technology students—vehicle drop off between 8-9am.

• Haircuts, Manicures & Pedicures provided by our Cosmetology students—appointments to begin at 12:15pm.

• Servicing lawn equipment including: Lawn mowers, Chain saws, weed eaters, Snow blowers and Power washers by our Ag & Industrial Power students—Drop off from 8-10:30am and pick up from 12-2pm.

• Pet Grooming provided by TRCC’s Veterinary Sciences program, 8:30am drop off 1pm pick-up. Pet to be groomed must be up to date on vaccinations including distemper, rabies, and bordetella.

• Portraits taken by Digital Media & Entertainment students from 9am- 2pm.

• Health check of vital signs—provided by our Health Careers Academy students from 8:30-10am and 12:30-2 pm.

• A computer safety inspection performed by our Computer Networking students from 8:30-11:30am & 12:30-2pm.

• Criminal Justice lab demonstrations for Veterans and their families about student preparation for military and or police work.

The goal of the Tri-Rivers LPN to RN program at Tri-Rivers Center for Adult Education is two-fold.
“First of all, we want our graduates to successfully obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse. Tri-Rivers Ag & Industrial Power students restore tractor

The Tri-Rivers FFA Ag & Industrial Power (AIP) students recently completed a major tractor restoration. “It was in pretty bad shape, but Mr. Rittler, the AIP instructor, and his students were willing to take on the job,” said Carrie Heimlich, Veterinary Science Instructor and FFA Advisor at the Career Center. She wanted the 1964 John Deere 4010 tractor restored to its splendor as an anniversary gift for her husband, Nick Heimlich.

The tractor was once owned by Nick’s grandfather, Emerson Klinefelter, said Heimlich. “Before it was handed down to him, it was used on their family farm in Cardington, Ohio. It is still being used for baling hay at that same location.”
The tractor has sustained a great deal of wear of tear and mediocre repairs throughout its years of service, said Heimlich. “It was in need of some expert care so it could continue its summers tasks,” she said laughing.

Rittler said, “It was a long and challenging project. My AIP students started working on it in September of 2015 and finished it this May. Ag & Industrial Power students involved in the restoration included: Jose Rubio, Tyler Dempsey, and juniors Jessica Hartman, and Zach Madison. The team power washed the tractor twice, replaced the bushings in the seat, repaired the hood and some of the sheet metal, corrected hydraulic and electrical problems, and disassembled many of the parts to assure they work correctly, explained Rittler.

The best part of the process, said Heimlich, was the surprise presentation. Staff and students, as well as family members gathered in the Vet Science barn to surprise Nick Heimlich. “He thought he was picking up sheep for me, she said. “Instead he opened the barn doors and there was his ‘new’ tractor, along with staff, students and family members. There were definitely some tears. Because of Mr. Rittler’s and his students’ hard work and dedication, my husband has a tractor that can now be used for many years to come.”

Ag & Industrial Power has been a program at Tri-Rivers Career Center ever since it was established in 1976. It has educated many students in areas such as power sports/ outdoor power and diesel fueled engines. Restoring the tractor, was just one of the many projects they completed this year. They also fabricated and repaired livestock equipment, repaired customer’s mowers and other lawn equipment, as well as working on student and school wide tasks.
