Congrats Industrial Maintenance Grads!

The 2011 Tri-Rivers Center for Adult Education’s Industrial Maintenance Graduation was held Friday, May 20 in the Giauque Auditorium at the Career Center.

The graduates included: Ron Hoffman*, Joe Baker, Steve McFarland*, Robert Oberle*, and Michael Quick*, James Young,
Russell Comstock*, Frank Dodd*, Nick Kokas, David Heller*, Brian Gillen*, Guy Ustazewski and William Justice. (* denotes perfect attendance).

 

Adult Director Richard George presented a special tribute to classmate Matthew Morrison who passed away shortly before graduation.

 

Industrial Maintenance is a 600+ hour program that provides training in a broad range of Industrial Maintenance skills, including: blueprint reading, machine trades, electrical & electrical systems, hydraulics/pneumatics, welding, programmable controls, HVAC, EPA 608, communications and more.

Brandon Parks wins Incentive Car

Brandon Parks, a River Valley senior, in the Tri-Rivers Landscaping/Garden Center program won the Incentive Car this year. Students earn chances to win the car each quarter for having perfect attendance. Parks had perfect attendance for the entire year.

Superintendent Chuck Speelman and Executive Director Larry Hickman, assisted by student Elly Partlow, drew the winning ticket during lunch, Wednesday, May 25.

The Incentive Car was worked on by the Auto Tech students. Students with perfect attendance all year earned additional chances on the car.

Tri-Rivers Senior Recognition 2011 was held Thursday Night at the historic Palace Theatre in downtown Marion. All Seniors crossed the stage and were recognized for their accomplishments. More than $213,000 of scholarships were awarded, certifications were announced,acceptances to college were recognized and special awards were presented.

 Principals Visit Construction Technologies

Area principals visit the Construction Technologies students to see firsthand the Unibilt home they are constructing. This project is providing the students with excellent hands-on training. Once the home is completed, it will be sold at auction.

TPA Student Receives Scholarship

Emily Springer and Instructor Lori Burkhart.   Springer, a River Valley student in Tri-Rivers Teaching Professions Academy, receives a $500 scholarship from the Marion Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.

  Ramey to join ITEST Team in Washington DC
Tri-Rivers
Engineering Instructor Ritch Ramey will be part of the National Science Foundation’s ITEST grant review team in Washington DC this summer, “This will allow me to see how the grant process works and hopefully bring future robotics and STEM  funding to our programs at Tri-Rivers, Marion Technical College and the surrounding area,” explained Ramey.

Tri-Rivers Career Center honored 2011 Retirees May 12 in the May Pavilion at the historic Palace Theatre in downtown Marion. The event was attended by close to 100 staff, former staff and family members. It was an evening of celebration, memories, and friendship.

This year’s retirees include: Beth Bay-Savage, who was an original TRCC employee and celebrates 35 years teaching Business and later computers; Randy Winland, Director of Student Services, 24 years; Linda Rode, Administrative Assistant to Student Services, 21 years; and Mary Jo Bell, Digital Media & Entertainment Instructor, 2 years at TRCC.

NTHS Spring Induction Ceremony held

The Spring 2011 National Technical Honor Society NTHS) Induction Ceremony was held Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Eleven students received the highest award for excellence in career and technical education during evening event attended by students, TRCC staff, associate school staff, parents and friends.
New inductees included: Carolyn Amos, Ceslie Eblin, Joshua Franklin, Richard Haines, Stormee McHargue, Ellyn Partlow, Dillon Quigley, Diana Rausch, Deana Risch, Shayna Wells and Alivia Young.

The outgoing Seniors received their cords, which they will wear for graduation. Seniors included: Samanta Blanton, Tracy Elliott, Shirley Evans, Destini Fogle, Megan Lucas, Jessica Moore, Brandon Parks, Jonikka Shepherd and Andre South.

NTHS honors student achievement and leadership, promotes educational excellence, and enhances career opportunities for the NTHS.

Kelsie Ross, a NTHS alum, was the featured entertainer. Superintendent Charles Speelman gave the evening address to a full auditorium.

Patient Care Technician Students Graduate

“The 2011 Patient Care Technician Graduation was held Thursday, May 5, 2011 in the Giauque Auditorium. “We want to thank Lori McGuire, the program coordinator and all of our instructors who became are friends and mentors,” said Melissa Albright, the class speaker.

The program, which is seven years old, according to McGuire, is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in 10 different skilled healthcare professions. Some of the graduates plan to purse LPNs, other are starting new positions and some are going to use their newly acquired skills in current positions or to seek new positions.

Graduates included: Melissa Albright, Ashley Aldridge, Tricia Carlyle, Susan Carwile, Regina Dunham, Dawn Gray, John Henkel*, Kathryn Keller*, Katelyn Lanker, Andrea Lohr, Dawn Marie McLeod, Logan Mitchell*, Vicky Musselman, Jessica Rowe, Marilyn Stinson and Tasha White. Awards included:

• Excellence in Medical Coding and the Peer Award—Melissa Albright.
• Excellence in Phlebotomy–Susan Carwile and Vicky Musselman.
• Excellence in Clinical Rotation Performance—Dawn Marie McLeod, John Henkel and Tricia Carlyle.

McQuire said all of the students who took the Home Health Certification passed, including: Albright, Carlyle, Carwile, Dunham, Gray, Keller, Lanker, Lohr, McLeod, Mitchell, Musselman, Rowe, Stinson and White.

 

 

 

 

 

Salute to “Nurses Trusted to Care”

Tri-Rivers joins the American Nurses Association in celebrating Nurses Trusted to Care as part of the National Nurses Week, May 6-12. We salute the dedication & commitment of the nearly 3.1 million nurses nationwide.

We’re proud to recognize nurses everywhere for the quality work they provide seven days a week, 365 days a year. We are especially proud of the Healthcare Professionals students and Health Technologies students who plan to become nurses, the graduates of our Adult Nursing programs and the dedicated, caring instructors who guide them to success! We are also thankful to have Nurse Sandy Redd as our school nurse.

Ramey to join ITEST Team in Washington DC

Tri-Rivers Engineering Instructor Ritch Ramey will be part of the National Science Foundation’s ITEST grant review team in Washington DC this summer.

“This will allow me to see how the grant process works and hopefully bring future robotics and STEM funding to our programs at Tri-Rivers, Marion Technical College and the surrounding area,” explained Ramey.

Ramey will be asked to read proposals and write reviews of about 10 proposals and then enter them in FastLane, the National Science Foundation (NSF) online proposal/review system. According to Robert E. Gibbs, NSF Program Director, it takes 1 to 2 hours to read a proposal and write a review.

This is a great opportunity for Mr. Ramey and will benefit our Engineering Program in many ways.

 

NTHS Induction Spring 2011

The Spring National Technical  Honor Society NTHS) Tapping Ceremony (induction)  was held Wednesday, May 5, 2011. Eleven students received the highest award for excellence in career and technical education.

Under the direction of their adviser, Bill Karcher, the current NTHS students and several staff members went around the building collecting this year’s inductees, blindfolding them, and leading them on a walk that ended in the auditorium. They then removed their blindfolds and were welcomed and congratulated.

New inductees include: Carolyn Amos, Ceslie Eblin, Joshua Franklin, Richard Haines, Stormee McHargue, Ellyn Partlow, Dillon Quigley, Diana Rausch, Deana Risch, Shayna Wells and Alivia Young.
